2018 | Martha ÿrika Alonso was reported to be killed in a helicopter crash, the first female Governor of Puebla, Mexico.

1999 | Indian Airlines Flight 814 was hijacked in Indian airspace between Kathmandu, Nepal, and Delhi, India. The plane landed in Kandahar, Afghanistan. On December 31 the incident ended with the release of the 190 survivors and one passenger killed.

1997 | On this day in Nigeria, between 50 and 100 people were reported to be killed in the Sid El-Antri massacre.

1994 | In Nigeria, terrorists hijacked Air France Flight 8969 on the ground at Houari Boumediene Airport, Algiers. Within three days three passengers were killed.
