You’ll soon be able to edit your messages on WhatsApp

WhatsApp says its users will soon be able to edit their sent messages.

The Meta-Owned company said that the change would allow users to correct simple spelling errors or add extra content to a message.

Although users have had the ability to delete messages and add emoji reactions, users have not been able to edit messages.

To edit the message, a user will need to do a long-press on a sent message and select ‘edit’ from the menu.

However, the ability to edit a message will only be available for 15 minutes after a message is sent.

Edited messages will display an ‘edited’ icon, letting the receiver know about the correction.

An edit history will not be available, so old messages will not be viewable on the platform.

WhatsApp said that the edits would be fully protected by end-to-end encryption, just like normal messages, media and calls.

The new feature has started to roll out globally and will be available to all users in the next few weeks.

Other changes announced

WhatsApp has recently rolled out a host of new features across various devices.

According to the data service WABetaInfo, WhatsApp started rolling out a feature allowing users to verify if the password for their backup is correct, so they can replace it if there is a mismatch. The new feature is available on iOS and Android for those who have the latest update.

Moreover, WABetaInfo said that WhatsApp is rolling out a new chat share sheet with a redesigned emoji panel for those using the app on Windows or macOS.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, also announced a new feature that allows users to lock certain conversations in a protected folder.

In this feature, locked chats will only be made accessible via a password or biometric verification. This is designed to ensure that personal information remains confidential.
