Woman killed in Avoca Hills drive-by shooting

A 42-year-old woman sustained a fatal gunshot wound in a drive-by shooting in Avoca Hills Drive around KwaMashu on Friday.

The incident reportedly happened at the intersection of Dumisani Makhaye in Avoca Hills Drive, KwaMashu, north of Durban.

According to private ambulance service Emer-G-Med, on arrival on scene an orange Volkswagen polo was noted to be stationary at the intersection with a bullet hole in the passenger window. The driver, a female, was found slumped over the steering wheel.

“With the assistance and permission of the South African Police Services, the team used specialist rescue tools to gain access to the vehicle.

“The driver was assessed and found to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound. She was declared dead on the scene.”

According to Emer-G-Med, the facts surrounding the incident and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.

PEDESTRIAN KILLED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY MINIBUS TAXI

On Friday night again, a 50-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a minibus taxi whilst attempting to cross Chris Hani Road in the Avoca area just after 18:00.

Emer-G-Med paramedics reportedly arrived on the scene to find the man lying in the road having suffered fatal injuries. He was declared dead on the scene.
