Game design studio turns load shedding into a PC game

CAPE TOWN – A Johannesburg game design studio has taken advantage of the country's ongoing power crisis and created a load shedding PC game called Power Play.

The game requires a player to navigate the dark towers of a city destroyed by load shedding by picking up batteries for a torch along the way.

The trick is to avoid falling.

Lead game designer at Vetkoek Studios, Eric Gardiner, explains why.

"The final objective is to basically switch off the management of Eskom and the goal is to not fall to the bottom and continue jumping between the wreckage of the city, which is being destroyed by the power surge and eventually reach the tallest building where the wealthy executives of Eskom are residing."
